Commercial companies nationwide are making significant investments
in
safety switching and sensing technology from Sentrol Industrial*, a division
of Interlogix. One such company recently selected Sentrol Industrial's
new
2515 Panel Door Series Contact for installation on the loading dock doors
of
its distribution center.
This company, which maintains a 52-bay loading dock, has
plans to install
the Sentrol Industrial 2515
contacts on all 52 doors. Currently, the contact
is operational on 7 doors; the remaining installations will take place
over the
next year as each door comes due for re-alignment or maintenance.
The Sentrol Industrial 2515 contact ties into the dock leveler system,
which
allows the dock levelers to operate only when a door is in the correct
open
position. "Since the doors are manually opened, they don't stop in
the same
spot every time. Also, roll-up doors have a tendency to move from side
to
side, which would kick them out of the range of a normal sensor,"
said the
company's forklift maintenance supervisor. "The wide range of operation
of
the 2515 sensor accommodates the side-to-side movement, and also allows
the operator to open a door to varying positions, and still have the dock
leveler activate. This will save time and be safer for the operator; it
will also
lower maintenance costs since doors wonít need to be continually
adjusted
to accommodate the range of a sensor," Miller said.
Sentrol Industrial designed the 2515 for use on panel or
sectional style
overhead doors in any industrial plant. It consists of a magnet mounted
on
the door, and a contact module mounted on the door channel. It allows
for
magnet-to-contact gap distances of up to six inches, thus ensuring reliable
operation on even poorly fitting doors. Further, because the 2515 is
installed off the floor, it is immune to the damage and misalignment
problems that trigger service calls and false alarms in the case of
floor-mounted contacts.
